A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless. A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated. Proverbs 14:16-17 (NIV)
An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.Proverbs 29:22 (NIV)
The root of sinful anger grows in a heart that is self-centered and idolatrous. Because we live in a society that screams constantly about “rights,” when our perceived rights are violated, we become angry.
Women champion their “right to choose,” homosexuals fight for the rights of marriage, children claim a right to privacy, and husbands claim a right to sexual relations. How many of these are biblical rights?
Examine some common perceived rights listed below against your own belief system. I would encourage you to support your beliefs with Scripture.
Right to have and express personal opinions
Right to respect
Right to be understood
Right to have good health
Right to be appreciated
Right to be treated fairly
Right to belong, to be loved, to be accepted
Right to make your own decisions
Right to determine your own future
Right to be considered worthwhile and important
Right to be protected and cared for
Right to have fun
Right to security and safety
Right to have others obey you
Right to have your own way
Right to be free from difficulties and problems1
Much of the problem of depression is wrapped up in wanting to control God—and anger at being unable to do so. God’s will violates your perceived rights. When He makes decisions you don’t like, you become angry. You internalize that anger, becoming full of self-pity because God is not doing things your way. Angry people do not understand the sovereignty of God, or if they do understand it, they refuse to accept it.
Such thoughts reveal a prideful, idolatrous heart. Believing you can override the sovereignty of God is untrue and leads to anger, bitterness, and eventually feelings of depression. In fact, depression is anger turned inward. When a person becomes angry and does not repent of it or address it biblically, depression is the result.
The typical angry response comes from something you wanted and didn’t get, or you are angry about something you got and didn’t want, but in both cases, you have never dealt with the anger biblically.
Feelings of anger are generally (wrongly) handled in one of two ways: blowing up (screaming, ranting raving, hollering, hitting, breaking things, driving too fast or recklessly) or clamming up (quietly internalizing the emotions, seething). Those who clam up are more prone to depression.
In either case, this anger is usually self-centered and idolatrous and comes from your wanting to control God but being unable to do so. God makes decisions that you don’t like; if you’re a blow-upper, you explode and make everyone’s life miserable, and if you’re a clam-upper, you internalize the anger and become full of self-pity because God is not doing things your way.
The Bible has this to say to those who become angry at the will of a sovereign God:
But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?”Romans 9:20 (NIV)
Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words?Job 38:2 (NLT)
Then the LORD said to Job, “Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job 40:1-2 (NLT)
The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.Psalm 24:1 (NLT)
I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.Jeremiah 17:10 (NLT)
Understand that the Bible does not prohibit becoming angry. Not all anger is sinful. The Lord Jesus Christ experienced and demonstrated anger, but in no way did He ever sin in His anger. When Jesus saw the moneychangers in the temple of God, he was filled with anger because they were violating the holiness of the temple. Their wickedness filled Jesus with a righteous indignation and drove Him to action.
He looked around at them angrily, because he was deeply disturbed by their hard hearts.Mark 3:5 (NLT)
Like Jesus, you are able to express righteous anger. Righteous anger is justified when we see social or personal evils, or when we see God’s holy standards being violated. This kind of anger does not have its root in “self” because the one being sinned against is God and His standards and principles, not you and me. That, however, is rarely the kind of anger we demonstrate.
Curing the Angry Heart
Don’t sin by letting anger gain control over you. Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry.Ephesians 4:26 (NLT)
God has not asked us to do something He has not equipped us to do. Since God’s Word says “Be angry but don’t sin,” it must be possible to do just that. The encouraging truth is that you do not have to sin when you’re angry. The heart change begins when you acknowledge before God that you struggle with sinful anger; simply confessing it to God. You might pray a prayer similar to this:
Dear gracious Father, I confess to You that I struggle with sinful anger, and Lord, that I sin deeply in my anger. Help me to see this sin the way You see it. I confess to you that I have hurt others by my angry words and actions. I ask You to give me the courage to confess my sin to those I have hurt and to seek their forgiveness. By Your grace, dear Lord, I commit to changing my ways. Help me to overcome this sinful pattern in my life. I choose to put off my sinful anger and to learn and practice new behaviors by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for the forgiveness that is mine through the Lord Jesus Christ. I pray these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now you must begin to renew your mind by studying what Scripture says regarding anger. Consider the biblical commands we are given regarding anger:
But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.Colossians 3:8 (NIV)
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.Ephesians 4:31 (NIV)
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.James 1:19-20 (NIV)
Don’t say, “I will get even for this wrong.” Wait for the LORD to handle the matter.Proverbs 20:22 (NLT)
These are not mere suggestions; these are commands from a holy God! Anger is a sin that leads to other sins, including wrath, envy, jealousy, and murder. Put these things away from you!
Initially you may wrestle with your thoughts and emotions because you have learned a habit, or pattern of response. It will take some time for you to master new responses, but take heart. You can see change beginning today!
If you are accustomed to blowing up when you’re angry, you must learn to enact new responses that will direct the energy of anger toward fixing the problem instead of using your anger to hurt people and objects.
If you typically clam up or bury your anger, you must begin to appropriately verbalize what has caused you to become angry and then take steps to correct the problem. At first you may find it difficult to respond appropriately to anger, but it will become easier as you grow in your understanding of the righteous responses to anger and as you continue to practice the right responses. There may be many failures at first, but don’t be discouraged my friend! God is a patient and loving Father, and He will bring you many opportunities to succeed.
I would also encourage you to grow in your understanding of the sovereignty of God. God is completely trustworthy and is completely aware of the circumstances that caused you to become angry. As you gain even a rudimentary understanding of the sovereignty of God, it will totally revolutionize your thinking. You will begin to understand that true wisdom comes from looking at life from God’s perspective. When you do this you take yourself out of the center of your universe.
Here’s a challenge: look again at the list on “rights” and write down to what you believe you have a “right”. Then see how many of the rights on the list you can righteously back up with Scripture. This exercise is often the key to assisting my counselees in understanding sinful thinking.
You too can experience heart change in your response to anger. If you choose not to deal with your sinful anger, it will not simply go away. Anger becomes more deeply entrenched and leads us to the next sinful heart attitude: bitterness.

My dream job would be working inside of the Library of Congress in Washington DC. I also would like to work at the University of Toledo Carlson Library in , Toledo, Ohio. I really would like to become a Pastor at Fort McKinley United Methodist Church located in Dayton, Ohio. It is right across the street from my apartment building. I am an Author of three books in 23 years now. My books are called Essays, My Grace is Sufficient for Me and finally The Best of Anthony Hopkins. This is the job that I have at the moment. My Publishers Name is Authorhouse Publications in Bloomington Indiana
Good Day Everyone!! I want to inform all of you that my heart is hurting right now. You see, I have relatives who I have not seen in over 40 years. My West Coast relatives waited 40 years to attend our family members funeral. I guess these people are picking and choosing where to go and who to see. My Grandfather’s relatives are very funny. I do not have a relationship with people who I do not know. This is a shame! Frankly, I would prefer to have a selected group of people attending my own funeral. Honestly, what do I look like going somewhere that I have never been before.
Next, I want to say that this is not very easy to talk about. I want to inform all of you that my relatives who live West of the Mississippi River, I’m very angry because these are the same people who are my Grandfather’s relatives. I really did not know that my Grandfather had children by other women. You see, I have lost respect for my own family members right now. They are in the same situation as myself. Fatherless is the term that I can use to describe my personal situation. Lord Jesus, You knows what is inside of my heart right now.
Further, I would like to apologize for maintaining bad behavior again. My Uncle Johnnie was raised in Dayton, Ohio. Sometimes we make decisions based on our emotion’s and desires. I really felt that his funeral should have been in Dayton, Ohio. You see something, my Uncle Johnnie Lee Hopkins wanted to impress his relatives who live in the West Coast. I am very frank in saying that our family members should have taken control over Uncle Johnnie Lee Hopkins Funeral Arrangements. This is very sad to me that people who I do not know are handling my Uncle Johnnie Funeral. It hurts me because I will never see him again. I have a lot of emotions that are inside of me. Uncle Johnnie Lee Hopkins did things to impress other people who are not in his own family.
Moreover, I want to say that my Uncle Johnnie Lee Hopkins and I did not speak to each other in a kind manner. This is something that I should have resolved with my Uncle Johnnie in advance. You see, it hurts me because I am carrying a lot of anger with me. My own family members do not understand me personally. I am furious because Uncle Johnnie should have resolved his beef that he had with me personally. My own family members do not know how to resolve things like this before death comes. I have other relatives and children who I have not seen in over 30 years now. My own children give me more respect than my own family members. This is the truth because my children are different than my nieces and nephews. My children lives in Toledo, Ohio right now. My Uncle Johnnie Lee Hopkins r I did not speak to each other anymore. I am very sorry to see him go like this.
Your mouth speaks what is inside of your heart. This is the truth because I have resentments towards my own family members. We are not really related to each other. If I were there in Chicago, Illinois I would be angry at everyone at the funeral. Uncle Johnnie Lee Hopkins and I will meet again in Judgement Day. This will not be easy to deal with. Uncle Johnnie Lee Hopkins died with secrets just like Mom. I didn’t know that my father was Caucasian male. This is the truth. It hurts me to mention something like this. I guess I was a bastard child. It is better to tell the truth than a lie. Please keep me and my family members in your prayers and thoughts because I have Life decisions that I must make for myself. The hospital wants me to fill out paperwork for Power of Attorney. I refuse to fill out paperwork of that magnitude. Lord Jesus Christ please listen to me. I might be angry right now, but I am very content with myself and others family members. Please resolve my discrepancy that I have with certain people who are in my personal life right now. These are the same people who bring up the past. Whatever happens in the past, it is dead and stinking to me. Remember not the former things nor mention the things of old. This is because you cannot take it with you when you die.
I have a very important question to ask everyone. Are we all inside of God’s Hands? The answer is yes! I am saying this because it is God who is doing for us more than we are doing for ourselves. I know that according to Proverbs 20:24 says a person’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand their own way? It is God that is doing the work for all of us in our personal lives. I will admit that I used to question God all of the time when I was a whole lot younger. Currently, at the age of 52, I am keeping my mouth shut because God has a way of disciplining mankind for disobedience. I want to inform everyone that I used to use God Name in vain all of the time. This is simply because I was a very angry person growing up.
Further, I used to question my own authority figures each and every single time that I was intended to do something for them. I always asked why, who, how, when and what all of the time. To be perfectly honest in Proverbs 20:20 says if a man curses his father or mother, his lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness. This is not a laughing matter because God can discipline you for the rest of your entire life, simply because a child has totally disrespected their parents. To be perfectly honest with all of you, we are all inside of God’s Hands.
In Addition, It is God’s unfailing love that he has for all of us that He provides us mercy. The definition of the word mercy is undeserved favor for someone or something. To be released from punishment. I feel that God is giving all of us a second chance as long as we repent of our sins. I feel at this time that God has cancelled all of my debt and sins because I am constantly repenting all of the time. Do you know that each day of our lives, we commit sin? It is not very easy to let go of our sinful nature. It has to be done in order for each and every last one of us to receive divine forgiveness.
Moreover, I want to tell everyone that I am writing this blog to let everyone know that God will continue to bless you as long as you are living according to His Word. I have to make direct amends with my family members for the things that I have done wrong towards them and others. My A.A Sponsor told me a very long time ago that I must make amends in order to set things right with God. I have an opportunity to make direct amends with everyone in my life. I will admit that I have not been a perfect child growing up. I have been very mischievous and sinful. I am very sorry for injuring others and myself all because I wanted to gain something from each person. I will admit that I was selfish, egotistical, and a self-righteous person. If I was not right in anything that I have done, then I would get angry and upset as well.
Finally, I want to tell all of you that I have a very long way in my Christian Walk because I have been robbing God in tithes and offerings to the church. I read the Bible every single day, and I am still a sinner. God has healed me from all of my sins, iniquities, and transgressions. I am still a Work in Progress just like everyone else. I am taking things day by day. I am clean and sober because I have been court ordered to A.A and other support groups. I am very sorry for disappointing God, Jesus Christ, others, and myself. Please continue to keep me in your prayers. Thank You for reading my blog.
What Does Reading the Holy Bible Means to Me? By Anthony Joseph Hopkins August 26, 2022
What does Reading the Holy Bible Means to me? It means that God is talking directly to me. God’s Words absorbs inside of my brain like a sponge. It gives me the knowledge and the special action words that I need to listen to each day.
Next, God’s Word gives me the confidence to do what is necessary for me to survive on earth. Every single time I read His Word, it helps me to grow as a human being. I want you to know that I really love reading God’s Word. His Word helps me to mature as an adult male; living on planet earth.
Further, I want to inform all of you that I am willing to share God’s Word to everyone who is willing to hear it. I want to inform all of you that 2nd Timothy 3:16-17 says All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Moreover, I want to say that if I need someone to talk to each day, I can always read God’s Word and it will calm me completely down if I am under a lot of stress. However, I know that God hears my prayers each and every single day of the week. I want to say that I am not a perfect person. I am a person who makes a lot of mistakes. I am a person who apologizes to God and other people if I have done something to offend them.
In Addition, I want to inform all of you that my life has been filled with ups and downs during the past 56 years. I know that I have disappointed my parents numerous of times by my actions. My emotions during the past 56 years have been filled with angry feelings. I cried every single time my parents argued in front of me and my siblings.
Furthermore, my parents were alcoholics. There were times when they did not know how to control their liquor. God talks to me all of the time. I want to inform all of you that God listens to all of my cries. I remember the very day that I had quit drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. On Wednesday May 2, 1990, I have decided to give up the high cost to low living. This means I stopped drinking alcohol and stopped smoking marijuana on that special day. I want to inform all of you that this day is very special to me because two days later, I had a hernia operation on May 4, 1990.
Also, I want to inform all of you that was with me even throughout my College Career. From Monday April 1, 1991 through Saturday June 14, 1996. I graduated from college twice. I earned my Associates Degree on Saturday June 12, 1993 from the University of Toledo Community and Technical College. I had a lot of fun during that special day. My Supervisor gave me a job two days later. After I completed my internship, I earned an A+ Grade for the work that I had done at the Jerusalem Outreach Center in Toledo, Ohio.
Finally, God was with me again as soon as I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies on Saturday June 17, 1995. God was with me because my behavior was not the best because I was acting like a crying baby at times. He heard all of my cries and concerns. I thought I was not going to make it through College. He did all of the work. The only thing I did was show up for class each day. I will admit that my behavior during class was not the best. This is the reason why God stepped in and helped

For His anger is but for a moment, , His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 30:5 Commentary,
This is the truth because God is angry only for a moment. This means that God is giving man another chance to get it together. I do believe God when He says the former things He really mean it. God is watching over us now and forever. God wants us to do His work every single day of the week. For instance, I am supposed to tell another person that you love them and mean it from your heart. He also wants us to make Disciples out of as many people as we can.
God really loves you. It is up to you to believe it. I know that God loves me. God knows all things. You see for me, God has me on probation. I suffer from Schizoid Affective Disorder. I will admit to hearing voices that an average person doesn’t hear. God has forgiven all of my sins.
I will admit that God is watching me very carefully. I know that I have a mental illness, but He really loves me. I know that Jesus died for my sins as well as the sins of other people. It is true that God favor lasts for a lifetime. God has work for me to do Inside of my hometown of Dayton Ohio. You see God wants us to stay busy for Him. God is doing for us more than we are doing for ourselves. We might cry for a little while but joy comes in the morning. I love God and He is about love for everyone. The only thing that we need to do is believe in Him. I believe that Jesus is the son of God and his death and resurrection means something to me. I do not have to dwell on the past anymore. If God doesn’t do it. I do not have any business dwelling on my past. My job is to live for Him. My job is to serve Him and love Him in the same way that He loves us.
Deuteronomy 16:17: And What it Means to All People!!
By Anthony Joseph Hopkins June 14, 2023
Deuteronomy 16:17 states that every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee. This particular Bible verse is in the Mosaic Laws. However, I want to inform everyone that God is being very flexible when it comes to paying tithes and offerings. I did not know that tithes are supposed to be added to the household budget. For example, if a person is earning $1, 115 per month, this means that we will have to pay $115.00 dollars per month in tithes and offerings.
Next, I want to say that this particular Bible verse is no longer emphasized. This is simply because we are under the New Covenant. Although this Bible verse is very nice and generous. I know that everyone has to pay according as he wishes. Basically, we are making God angry with us when we do not pay tithes and offerings. My overall bills come up to $1,100 dollars per month. If I include my tithes and offerings, I will have to pay a total of $100.00 per month.
Further, I want to inform all of you that some people in Moses time did not have income. They utilized livestock, silver, and gold. To be honest, the wages that people earned was not worth anything. I am not criticizing the way that God did His business. It is that people worked an entire day for wages. This is the reason why I wrote an essay concerning people who earned fix incomes do they still have to pay tithes and offerings? The answer to this question is yes.
Moreover, I really feel that some of the Old Testament Bible Verses should be emphasized in today’s times. Right now, it is not very easy for anyone who earns a Disability Check to pay tithes and offerings. Some do and some do not pay anything to the Church that they attend each week. I know that my life at this moment has been complicated. My life has been complicated because I owe student loans and other debts.
Finally, I want to say that at least God is very flexible with everyone. I do not want to make God angry with me ever again. To be honest, I will have to include my 10% of my income to pay tithes and offerings. I really think God is really giving everyone a break because I have some valuables that I can sell each month for money. I have a Book called My Grace is Sufficient for me.
My book is not selling because I could not afford the marketing fees to market my book. My book is small, and I feel that I can at least accomplish a goal for God. To be completely honest with all of you, I owe $22,500 dollars in student loans from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I was enrolled in school only for a short period of time. I graduated from the University of Toledo on June 12, 1993 and June 17, 1995 respectively. I earned my degree from The University College.
In Conclusion, I want to inform all of you that I am doing the best I can just to pay bills and survive. May the God of Peace be with all of you. I really feel that I have selected an essay that comes right out of the Bible. It might be from the Old Testament, but I feel that I have knowledge and experience when it comes to the Bible.

2nd Timothy 3:16-17, and What it Means to All People. By Anthony Hopkins August 15, 2022
Good Day Everyone!! How are all of you doing this evening? Fine, I hope. I want to inform all of you that 2nd Timothy 3:16-17 is two of the best Bible verses inside of the Holy Bible.
I am saying this because it enables me to literally listen to God’s message and understand it at the same time. Whenever I feel worried or sad, I can always read something inside of the Bible to give me a morale boost.
The Bible itself has doctrine inside of it. It provides a set of standards that will enable me to take me to a level that I have never been before. I will admit that I have read the entire Bible several times. There are a lot of things that I need to remember.
Next, I want to say that I feel corrected by God because His Word enables me to grasp the meaning of each Bible verse. I realize that there are over 5,000 Bible Promises that I can read and learn all about what is inside of the Bible.
Further, I want to let all of you know that I feel a whole lot better after I read the Bible. I also know that each time I read the Bible, it allows me to learn what each book inside of the Bible is saying. I really understand what it is like to go through some of the things that each Writer felt emotionally from writing each Book in the Bible.
Moreover, I want to inform everyone that I really love reading Psalms and Proverbs because it is the Book of Wisdom. I know that I might not be the best reader of the Bible, but I can say that I have learned a great deal about the Bible.
I recall having a problem trying to understand what I used to read. I used to have a problem trying to pass math and reading. I still have a problem dealing with logic and probability when it comes to mathematics. As far as reading is concerned, it has taken me a number of years to understand what I am reading as well as reading comprehension.
However, I have learned a whole lot about reading comprehension. My parents used to help me with my homework in school. While I was attending Edison Elementary School, I have won the school spelling bee quite a few times.
My grandparents used to take me to church and I have learned a lot about the Holy Bible. I read the Bible each day and night. I have improved a lot when it comes to the Bible. Every single time I read the Bible, God is talking to me. God is reminding me that I am still with you.
Finally, I want to inform all of you that I listen to 93.7 WFCJ The Lite. I listen to the church sermons and it helps me to stay grounded in the Word of God. The Bible does a whole lot for other people who have problems reading and writing. I have come a very long way with my academic skills. Whenever I read the Bible, I know that God is with me right now.
In Conclusion, I want to say to everyone to make sure that they read one chapter per day from John and Proverbs. I have been reading the Book of Job. Job is the oldest Book in the Bible. Many people do not know that Job is the oldest Book inside of the Holy Bible. This is the truth. Job was an Oriental Man. He was blessed by God in the end. His friends did not understand him. Although they had been silent for over a week and a half after Job lost his children and livestock. Job was a very wise man, who possessed a great deal of intellect.
In Summary, I want to say that I have a very strong relationship with God right now. I always ask Him to follow me. Please go with me God everywhere I go. The Bible gives me what I need in my life right now. God Bless all of you. May the Lord God continue to Bless You All.
