Good Day!! My name is Anthony H. and I am a grateful recovering alcoholic. I would like to share my experience, strength, and hope regarding Sponsorship. First of all, I would like to say that having a sponsor is the first and foremost when it comes to communication with other members. For me personally, I was court ordered into the fellowship by the Dayton, Ohio Montgomery Common Pleas Courts simply because I committed drug related crimes. I also had a mental illness as well. To be honest with all of you, having a sponsor is a person who is capable of assisting me and giving me advice; while in the program. I know that my very first sponsor and I got into a fist fight because he was too demanding. He really did not know how to be a sponsor and he got mad at me because I was in the streets too much for him. Even though, I had completed the 12 Steps, I was a person who was a follower of the streets. I was transitioning out of the street gang culture, and it was very hard at first, but I had to take care of myself and my own family. Sponsors are people who are experienced in the AA Program. I will admit that I am a Sponsor myself and the people who I am sponsoring are involved in street gangs. There are 3 of them who had recently relapsed and I told them that I will be there for them after they are released from treatment. I had advised and suggested to the men to attend meetings on a daily basis. I also told these men that they have to avoid having a sexual relationship for one year. They had to abstain from having a relationship with a woman. These men had to get themselves together first and foremost. I help them with things that pertain to Alcoholics Anonymous. My suggestion to a newcomer in the Fellowship is to attend 90 meetings in 90 days, read the 164 pages of the AA Book. I also tell newcomers to also call me if they are interested in me as a sponsor. I also tell newcomers that they will have to establish a relationship with a Higher Power or God. My objective as a sponsor is to help each person and myself to get through the 12 Steps. I can only advise and suggest to another fellow alcoholic. I cannot tell them what to do. I can show them a better way of life that is much better than drinking and getting high. My name is Anthony H. from Dayton, Ohio and I am a grateful recovering alcoholic. My topic is Sponsorship. My sobriety date is May 2, 1990.Thanks for allowing me to share.
Jeremiah 29:11
Jeremiah 29:11 and what it really means to me? Good Evening and God Bless All of You!! I would like to say Thank You Lord Jesus for giving me an opportunity to share my experience, strength, and hope with others. I would like to say that this is my favorite Bible verses. I would like to say that it is the Lord knows how long we are going to live on Earth. It is the Lord, who examines all of my steps and he also knows me more than I know myself. I want to say that this Bible verse is true and it is tailored towards the needs of all people. I know that I have been praying for a miracle, and Lord, you have answered all of my prayers. Thank You Lord Jesus for blessing me with a real job. I thank you Lord Jesus for helping me my entire life. I also want to thank you for blessing me with the people that you have put into my life to help me along the way. I ask the Lord to count my steps and cleanse me from all of my secret faults. I want to mention to everyone that it is very nice to have the Lord as your friend and confidant. I thank the Lord for all that He has done for me in all of my 60 years of existence. I thank you for the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God. I want to thank everyone for helping me throughout my journey. I love all of the people who have encouraged me; when it comes to writing my essays and for all of their prayers. Finally, Lord, I want to say that I really miss all of my friends in Charlotte, NC and Toledo, Ohio. I really miss everyone who have helped me when it comes to the small stuff. I thank all of you for being there for me, when I was not there for myself. I really miss everyone who have passed on to the next life. I really miss my sister and mother who went home to be with Jesus Christ. I also want to say that I love all of you; who I have been in contact with for the past 60 years of my life. I want to thank all of my Facebook and Mocospace Friends. I want to thank everyone who are praying for me; while I am here in the Dayton, Ohio area. Jeremiah 29:11 impresses me because it is God that is doing for me more than I am doing for myself. I owe everything to Him for putting the right people in my life. I thank you Lord for giving me the ability to do anything, if I put my mind to it. The Lord God will guide you as long as you are ready and willing to have Him in your life.

My name is Anthony Joseph Hopkins and I am from Dayton, Ohio. I would like for everyone to please pray for me because I am suffering from Diabetes Type #2 and Schizoid Affective Disorder and Glaucoma and Cataracts in both eyes π right now. Diabetes is eating me up because I am having blurred vision and eye pain right now. Diabetes affects my vision because wearing eyeglasses πΆ π π does not help me anymore. I have been suffering from Glaucoma for the past 16 years now. I used to take a seizure medication called Tegretol for 9 years. This medication has caused me to have an increase in eye pressure inside of both eyes. I had to have eye surgery on both eyes 3 years ago.
Next, I want everyone to know that I am having a very hard time trying to see out of my eyes right now. My Diabetes Blood Sugar has been high and low for the past 16 years now. My family members do not suffer from Diabetes anyway. I have been taking Medformin for 11 years now. I will admit that I used to weigh 326 pounds last year. I have lost 80 pounds since last year. I would like for everyone to please read all of my information because I really do not know when I might permanently lose my eyesight.
Further, I want to wish all of you a Happy Valentines Day Ma’am and Sir Worldwide π π β€οΈ π. This is not very easy for me to deal with each day. I want everyone to know that God is doing for me more than I am doing for myself. I only want to share exactly where I am in my AA Journey. I have been clean and sober for 35 years now. I know that throughout my recovery, I have had some challenges along the way. However, I am still in recovery from AA related issues as well as my personal health.
Moreover, I am also suffering from SchizoAffective Disorder and Heart Failure simultaneously. I am taking medication for both conditions as well. I am sharing this information because I am losing my vision. Sooner or later, I will not be able to attend AA Meetings anymore. I will not be able to live a normal life anymore. I am only 60 years old and I have too many health problems. I am a very intelligent person who has a lot of common sense.
In Addition, I am currently living inside of an Assisted Living Facility in Dayton, Ohio right now. I have been through the ringer when it comes to dealing with life on Life issues. My family members and friends worldwide have been very supportive during the past 16 years now. I know that God is not giving up on me. There are times when I tend to give up on myself.
Also, I have been admitted to the hospital six times during the past 6 months. I have been suffering from Seizures and Convulsive Syncope all of my life. I have come to the realization that I have to stick and stay in one specific place. I know that I have been living in many cities during the past 32 years now. I have to take full accountability for all of my actions π¬. I have to make amends with my family members and friends for years of personal pain and suffering that I had put all of them through.
Finally, I want everyone to know that I have to spend more time with God. I know that I have been doomscrolling through the internet on my phone for the past 17 years now. I have had some personal slip ups, and I take full responsibility for all of my sins and transgressions. I want to share with everyone that I am losing my vision right now. I cannot wear eyeglasses anymore because the insides of my eye retinas are swollen. I really am suffering from both Diabetes Retinopathy and Glaucoma at the same time. I am in need of eye surgery again just to fix my eye problems.
In Conclusion, I am sharing this story just to make everyone aware that Diabetes can affect your vision and your overall well-being. I need all of your prayers π because I cannot live without God and Jesus Christ in my life right now. Lord God, please come to me because I am in need of your assistance for the rest of my life π. I have to share where I am with everyone.
Postscript: I am very scared right now. I want to inform everyone that I have both financial and personal hardships that I am constantly contending with each day. I have a lot of collections debts right now. I only want God and Jesus Christ as well as all of you to please pray for me Ma’am and Sir worldwide π π β€οΈ. I love all of you forever.
Thank you for reading my essay π β€οΈ!!

Vision Loss and Diabetes
What to know
- Diabetes can damage your eyes over time and cause vision loss or blindness.
- Managing your diabetes can help to prevent or delay eye problems.
- Regular eye exams help to diagnose eye problems early so you can get treatment and protect your eyesight.

Diabetic retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. DR is when high blood sugar damages blood vessels in the retina (a part of your eye). Damaged blood vessels can swell and leak, causing blurry vision. DR usually affects both eyes.

Risk factors
Anyone with type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes (diabetes while pregnant) can develop DR. The longer you have diabetes, the more likely you are to develop it. These factors can also increase your risk:
- High blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
- Smoking.
- Being an African American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian or Alaska Native person.
Stages of diabetic retinopathy
Early stage (nonproliferative): Blood vessels in the retina weaken and bulge, forming tiny pouches. These pouches can leak, which may cause a part of the retina called the macula to swell and distort your vision. This swelling is known as macular edema and is the most common cause of blindness in people with DR. About half of people with DR will develop macular edema.
Advanced stage (proliferative): The retina begins to grow new blood vessels that are often fragile and bleed. With minor bleeding, you may see a few dark spots that float in your vision. If there’s a lot of bleeding, your vision may be completely blocked.
Symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment for diabetic retinopathy
Symptoms
You may not notice symptoms in the early stages of DR. Symptoms can include:
- Blurry vision.
- Spots or dark shapes in your vision.
- Trouble seeing colors.
- Dark or empty areas in your vision.
- Vision loss.
Diagnosis
During your eye exam, your doctor will check how well you can see from a distance. Your doctor will also dilate your eyes to look at the retina and blood vessels inside your eyes. If you have DR, your eye doctor may want to check your vision more frequently.
The sooner youβre treated for DR, the better that treatment will work. That’s why early diagnosis is so important, even if you don’t have symptoms yet. You should have an eye exam to check for DR immediately if you’re diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. For type 1 diabetes, you should have an eye exam within 5 years of diagnosis.
Call your eye doctor if you notice changes in your vision, especially sudden changes, such as:
- Blurring.
- Spots.
- Flashes.
- Blind spots.
- Distortion.
- Difficulty reading or doing detail work.
Treatment
Treating DR can repair damage to the eye and even prevent blindness in most people. Treatment can start before your sight is affected. Options include:
- Laser therapy (laser photocoagulation).
- Medicines called VEGF inhibitors or corticosteroids.
- Vitrectomy (surgical procedure).
- Reattachment of the retina (if retina detached).
Diabetes and cataracts
A cataract is the clouding of the normally clear lens in your eye. Everyone’s lenses tend to get cloudy as they get older. But people with diabetes are more likely to have cataracts and at a younger age. One reason is that high blood sugar can cause deposits to build up in the lenses and make them cloudy.
Other risk factors include high blood pressure, obesity, too much sun exposure over time, and smoking.
Surgery is the only way to treat cataracts. But you usually don’t have to have surgery right away unless vision loss is getting in the way of daily activities. Using brighter lights in your home and anti-glare sunglasses outside can help early on. Most people have better vision after surgery.
Diabetes and glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, usually because of too much pressure in the eye. Many types of glaucoma don’t have symptoms, and vision loss can happen very slowly.
People with diabetes are twice as likely to develop open-angle glaucoma, the most common type. Other risk factors include:
- Having a family history of glaucoma.
- Being over age 60.
- Being an African American, Asian, or Hispanic/Latino person.
Diabetes can also cause neovascular glaucoma. This happens sometimes with diabetic retinopathy when new and abnormal blood vessels grow on the iris (colored part of the eye). The new vessels can block off the flow of fluid out of the eye, which raises eye pressure.
There isn’t a way to prevent glaucoma, but treatment can help stop it from getting worse. That’s why catching glaucoma early is so important. Treatment options include medicines, laser treatment, and surgery. Talk to your eye doctor about what choices are best for you.
Prevent or delay eye diseases
You can protect your vision and lower your chance for vision loss with these steps:
Get a dilated eye exam at least once a year so your eye doctor can spot any problems early.
Manage your blood sugar levels. Over time, high blood sugar damages blood vessels in your eyes. It can also affect the shape of your lenses and make your vision blurry.
Manage your blood pressure and cholesterol levels to lower your risk for eye diseases and vision loss.
Quit smoking. Quitting lowers your risk for diabetes-related eye diseases and improves your health in many other ways too.
Get active. Physical activity protects your eyes and helps you manage diabetes.
